Anxiety is the natural response of body to stress. It’s a normal emotion of a person about feeling of fear or it’s apprehension about what’s going to happen next, like first day to school is anxiety for a child , going on stage for some speech or song for any such stage activity, going for job interview may cause most of the people to feel nervous. It’s normal to feel anxious. But if the feeling of fear stays with you all the time, it is intense, you are not able to do the things which you use to enjoy earlier, if ignored and not treated on time it aggravates and worsens, called as Anxiety Disorders. It is the form of emotional disorder. It can happen at any age and to anybody. It is seen in females, as emotional factor is more in females. Anxiety plays a key role in several disorders like- Panic disorder, Phobia, Social anxiety disorder, Obsessive compulsive disorder, Separation anxiety disorder, Illness anxiety disorder. SYMPTOMS– It’s different for persons experiencing it- – Butterflies in the stomach, -Racing heart or increased heart rate, -Feeling out of control, -Restlessness, -Nightmares, -Panic attacks, -Trouble concentrating, -Sleeping problem(not able to sleep).
The exact cause of anxiety is not known. It’s a combination of factors, may be genetic or environmental factors and the brain chemistry. Sustained anxiety requires professional treatment. AYURVEDIC REMEDIES– Anxiety in times of stress is normal, and can be alleviated with these remedies . Sustained anxiety requires professional treatment.
FOR VATA AND PITTA ONLY- Boil 3/4 Cup milk with one tsp cane sugar, 1 tsp fennel seeds and two threads saffron. Drink the mixture warm, taking half cup twice daily. Take half teaspoon turmeric with 1 tbsp Cane sugar and one teaspoon ghee three times a day.
FOR KAPHA ONLY- The best anxiety remedy for dominant or elevated Kapha is physical exercise.
YOGA SUGGESTIONS– The following yoga asanas if done regularly can help in controlling anxiety to certain level –
• Uttanasana – standing forward bending
• Paschimottanasana- head to knee forward bending
• Shitali Pranayam
• Triangle pose
• Shashank asana-child pose
• Tree pose
• Shavasana- corpse pose
